A fan who attended the 2010 premiere sent in the following report:
The Genesis Code celebrated its opening at the Grand Rapids Film Festival on the evening of August 25th in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The event was attended by some of the film's actors and others who held an interest in the movie and its production. It was also attended by some faithful fans of Ben Murphy!
The movie focuses on two college students, one, a hockey player, the other, a journalism student, attempting to reconcile their differing beliefs about the origins of the universe while struggling with other life dilemnas along the way.
I hesitate to say too much, for fear of spoiling the movie for you, but let me share just one thing. After seeing the movie with a small group of family and friends, much lively discussion ensued on the subject of creation and evolution. Are the two theories really at odds? And, I found myself smiling at the thought that Ben might have enjoyed being part of our conversation.
Ben Murphy is wonderfully cast in the role of Bob Campbell, Professor of Paleontology, bringing his unique style to the character. As I watched, I found myself catching brief glimpses of 'Kid Curry' or even 'Sam Casey'. Or perhaps it was simply facets of Ben's entertaining and complex personality shining through.
Creation? Evolution? Neither? Both? The Genesis Code may or may not change your mind. It may or may not confirm something you've suspected might be true of false. But odds are, The Genesis Code will make you think. And isn't that the mark of a truly good movie?
As for myself, I have an opinion, which I won't share here since this is Ben's site, not mine. But I'm fairly certain Ben has his own view and one day, I'd love to sit down with him over a glass of iced tea and compare notes! Never happen? Probably not. But The Genesis Code is also a movie about faith. So maybe, if I just keep believing...!
