I've
been a Ben Murphy fan since I was 10 years old. Even though I live
in Los Angeles and have seen several TV and movie stars, I never
expected to run into Ben in a million years.
I just saw the two pictures that a fan sent in of Ben at Battle of
the Network Stars and that brought back memories of that same
weekend for me.
In the 80's, I used to go to Pepperdine University in Malibu,
California twice a year to see them film "Battle of the Network
Stars." In 1983...there was Ben Murphy. I couldn't believe my
eyes!! This was too good to be true. Then reality set in. Even
though I was 21 years old...I was still the shyest person in the
world. How was I going to ask him to take a picture with me without
turning all shades of RED? My sister and best friend helped me
summon up the courage to go up and ask him. It was extremely
difficult for me to approach him. I kept creeping up closer and
closer so that I could ask him. I think he saw me working my way up
to him. I swear, he must of sensed something because I will NEVER
forget what happened next.
I knew my sister was right behind me with the camera so I went up to
him and asked him if he would mind taking a picture
with me and he said yes. So I immediately turned around to face my
sister thinking that Ben would just take a few steps forward to get
along side me BUT to my surprise he came up from behind me and put
his arm around me neck and put his face right next to mine. I just
LIT up. I was in HEAVEN! I was smiling all day after that.
Gosh...what actor or person, for that matter, would do that? That
pose is reserved for friends or family BUT I had that pose with Ben.
He will never know what that meant to me...the shy girl. Or
maybe he did and that's why he did it. THANK YOU BEN!!!!
This is our photo together...24 years ago.
Thank
you for letting me share my "Ben" story with you.
A Ben Murphy fan for life.
